Klondike Derby

The Klondike derby is an event run every year by the district. It is an intertroop competition that is centered around each troop's individual sled. We had a lot of fun last year, and hope to again this year.
We are hosting an open house on 1/27/26 at 7:30 at Jennings Elementry. Come check us out!
Troop 199 is an active Scouting America troop based in Fairfield, CT. We are scout led, meaning the older scouts lead the troop on its activities. During the school year, we meet weekly and go on a camping trip each month and spend a week at camp each summer. We are open to anyone ages 10-18. We were founded in 1966 and are very proud to have nurtured over 125 scouts through to become Eagle Scouts. Come learn more.

We meet each Tuesday evening from 7:30-9:00 at Jennings Elementary School. At these meetings, the Scouts play games, learn skills they will use in life such as how to tie knots, first aid or even time and financial management. Sometimes, we change things up and do things like visiting the Fairfield Regional Fire School or have local politicians come discuss civics and current affairs with us.
Our campouts vary significantly from one to the next. Beautiful fall backpacking trips, winter treks up Mount Monadnock followed by skiing or snowboarding or in the spring, whitewater rafting. Sometimes we camp and others we stay in cabins. Parents are welcome to join but are not required.
Each summer, we attend a scout camp in Rhode Island named Camp Yawgoog. We have stayed in the same campsite on the edge of the lake for decades. The camp includes a beautiful lake where we swim, kayak, sail, and more. We often use our week at camp to earn merit badges which help scouts to progress through the ranks. Our week at Camp Yawgoog is one of the scout's favorite activities of the year.
In the US, there are four national high adventure bases; Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico, Northern Tier in Minnesota, Sea Base in the Florida Keys, and Summit Bechtel Reserve in West Virgina. In 2025, eight of the older scouts and three of the adult leaders went to Philmont, where they had an incredible adventure. They hiked over 50 miles through the New Mexico Mountains with heavy packs on their backs, stopping for activities like spar pole climbing, musket shooting, and more. We are hoping to go to another Adventure soon.
